A loan is an agreement whereby a lender lends money to a lender and pays it back within a specified period of time. The amount of money borrowed from the lender is called the principal amount of the loan. The borrower is usually required to repay the principal amount along with interest. When you borrow money to buy a home, the loan is called a mortgage. Because the house you buy also serves as a guarantee of payment.
