Next, you need to look back at all of your previous monthly expenses so that you can fill in the “planned amount” category.
You can do this by looking at your checking account or any other spending tracks you use. Each expense should be added to a separate budget category.
For example, if your monthly rent or mortgage is $1,000 per month, you should make sure to put that amount in the budget column.

When you start paying your bills each month, enter the actual bill amount in this column. Then you subtract the planned amount and the actual amount to get the difference.
This will allow you to see how much money you have left each month based on your budgeted amount and actual amount.

I know that many credit card companies and other financial institutions will add additional fees that I would have missed if I hadn’t written them down and compared them to previous months.
This happens to me a lot with my monthly cell phone bill. I always see a bunch of extra fees and charges that I have to call them to get them removed. It may seem like a small call about the $5 fee, but it starts to add up every month. This could save me over $50 at the end of the year.
If you’re just starting out, give yourself some flexibility. You don’t want to rush into a strict budget right away because that will make you feel stressed.
