How To Write A Teacher Introduction Letter To Parents – One of the many forms that teachers send home on the first day of school is an “About Me” letter. This letter of introduction is a way for the teacher to introduce the new class of students and their families. Basically, this letter makes a first impression, and it should be a good one.

So how do you write such a letter? Here are some tips for writing an effective and engaging About Me in your classroom.

1) Comply with school policies. Teachers of the same class can use a template so that each teacher’s letter has a similar feel and contains all kinds of general information. First, write your cover letter and follow your school’s policy before sending it home.

3) Put yourself in their shoes. At the end of this letter, pretend you are the parent. What message do you most want to convey? What would you like to know about your child’s teacher? Make sure you include it!

4) Promote your unique qualities and skills. Maybe you’ve been to all seven continents and loved social studies. Maybe you’re fluent in American Sign Language and your class will be singing songs in ASL during winter break. Or I have a pen pal who lives in Japan. (We’ve been writing for 25 years!). I brought the pen pal relationship to the classroom in a local way. Every year my 4th graders would write their 4th grade friends at another elementary school in Los Angeles, and every spring we would meet up for a field trip.

5) Enter some personal information. Where did you go to college? Where did you grow up? Are you local? (I used to tell my class that I was born, raised, and continue to live in the same zip code). Some teachers choose not to include their family in their “about me” letter. Others provide brief information (ie, I am the parent of a young boy). If in doubt, ask others at your grade level.

6) Extend invitations. The truth is, you can’t do it alone. You need the help and support of your students’ families. Make sure they know this from the start. Let them know when (ie, weekly) and how they want to hear from you (ie, a short newsletter). Remind them to contact you if they have any questions or concerns. And on that note…
